The ever-looming shadow that was cast by the mountain behind the nearby village create an atmosphere that was, to say the least, pleasant. The shadow was huge, it reigned over a vast majority of the nearby forest around the village and left the thick and heavy forest lush and comfortably cool.
It seemed a small patch of the forest had been decimated, not much, only enough to form a reasonably sized camp for what seemed to be two people. One male, the other a female, the male had an orangish color to his hair, and deep green eyes. He swung his one arm to the side, bringing the last tree down to the ground. He stood up, his wrist wiping around his brow. He turned and looked behind him at his partner, "Kara-kara." He said slowly, "It's ready... We can camp here now."
It had been quite the week for the pair. It had left, him at least, drained and exhausted. He fell back on his rear and brought his gaze up to his partner while propping his body up with his one arm.

Karasu's hands were placed on her hips as she watched Reizo take down the trees. She nodded as he announced the camp was ready. The wind blew, and ruffled her hair, exposing her violet eyes. "Very good," she said, her voice quiet, "Now we can finally rest." Kurai was perched on her shoulders. He, too, was tired from all of the flying they had done. He hadn't flown since the two left the land of the ice. Kurai stretched and ruffled his feathers. Karasu sat beside Reizo and stared off into the distance. "So.. What now," she asked.

Reizo shut his eyes and dropped backwards, his head falling beside he feet, basking in the cool shade that was pleasantly drowning him. He felt the emptiness where his other arm once was and frowned a bit, not seemling pleased by the emptiness that he felt. He opened his eyes and stared at her through his spring leaf colored eyes and spoke in a low tone that seemed very unmotivated. "Why..." He muttered for a moment before sighing and muting whatever he was going to say. He sat up. His back turned to her before standing up. "When... was the last time we ate?" He stood up and sighed, "I suppose I'll go get us something."

Karasu glances sideways at him as soon as he began to state his unfinished question. To this, she replied, "Hmm?" She pulled her knees to her chest, wrapped her arms around her legs, and rested her chin on her knees. She looked at Reizo again when he rose, curiosity in her otherwise lifeless eyes. He was going to get food. His questiion was a valid one, and as soon as he asked it, she knew how hungry she was. "That.." she trailed off, then began again, "That sounds like a good idea." She leaned back carefully and allowed Kurai to jump off of her shoulder into the grass. Karasu lied down.

Reizo forced himself to his feet, using his one arm as a kickstand to help him prop his body up until it was balancing on his two feet. He turned towards the thick and heavy forest, one that seemed that it would surely be full of life and animals. He stepped off into the woods and eventually disappeared into the thick. He was gone for a while, about an hour. As he finally resurfaced, returning to the camp at the quickest pace he possibly could.
As he made his return, he came with two pairs of foot steps, it seemed he created a clone to help him carry his prize. A large buck. Though their was two of him, he still seem to be struggling with the large animal corpse, which was hung backwards over his shoulder and had seemed to have drained out while he carried it. He set the magnificent corpse in the center of the small cleary and sighed, "Look good?" He said tiredly.

As Reizo left, Karasu closed her eyes for a while. Everything went black until she heard some rustling nearby. She bolted upright (sitting, though) with her hand on the hilt of her sword. "Oh.." she sighed, "Just you." She let her arm rest there, and dropped it into her lap. Her eyes widened when she saw their bounty. "That's.. Good. Very good." She stood up, and went over to it. She unsheathed her blade, and was preparing to skin and gut the creature.

Reizo smiled at her, happy that she had been on the alert-- he would expect nothing less from her after the beatings they had took and the pain they had shared. He put up his hands in a joking, defensive manner, "Don't cut~" He said melodically. He watched as she drew her katana and prepared herself to disembowel the creatures corpse. He smiled, honestly relieved that he didn't have to do it.

Karasu stuck the blade in the ground and rolled up her sleeves. She knelt at the deer and began to skin the creature, making sure to avoid getting blood everywhere. She wind blew on her exposed arm (the one previously injured) and caused her to wince a little. "You know," she said quietly, "Its strange not having to battle demons for now." She leaned back and sighed. She looked at the deer blankly. She knew Kurai was off somewhere else-- he always hated watching fellow animals die.

He fell back on his butt and watched her, he couldn't deny that he wasn't relieved. He was sure he was going to have to gut the beast. So, seeing her start and having a chance to relax was undoubtedly a relief. He fell back and stretched out his arms a bit, sprawling on the ground happily and basking in the cool shadows before looking up, seeing her without her other partner. "Feathers?" He looked up and smiled, "Where's feathers?" He sat up an nearly cackled, "Don't tell me 'your' bird is uncomfortable with animal deaths!" He half asked her. He found it humorous because she was so cold and relentless, so it seemed almost ironic.

"Yes," Karasu said quietly, and she dropped the entrails of the deer off into one steaming pile. They were still dripping with blood. "He and I are..." she paused, trying to think of a word, "We are polar opposites, so to speak. He may be willing to kill for me, but if it is an animal, he cannot watch one be ripped apart." she motioned to the deer. She knelt down beside it, and began cutting off chunks of raw meat. Karasu sighed. Blood was getting all over her kimono.. and hair.. "Reizo, is there a lake or steam nearby?"

"Yeah... That's were I cornered him." He pointed off in the direction that he had come from and lowered his arm right afterwards. He was curious what the bird would do if an animal was trying to kill her, he had a literal and genuine curiosity but was able to shrug it off. He stood up anxiously and moved to her side as she began to cut pieces of the deer apart. He gave her a friendly shove and made a "Psshaw" sound, "Let the blood ninja do this... you'll get more dirty, gods forbid." He almost teased, he was obvious a lot more comfortable around her then he had been when they first met, and with good reason.

Karasu let Reizo push her, and then she regained her posture. She gave an awkward smirk, knowing that Reizo was jsut kidding around. Her response was, "Oh, please, Reizo.. What am I, a princess?" Nonetheless, She stood up, and moved out of the way. Her arms were soaked in blood up to her elbows, and it was dripping from her fingers. "I'm going to the stream to wash off. I better return to find that deer ready," she said, trying to joke as well. Karasu never had much of a sense of humor, and she knew it. She turned around, and began to walk towards the stream, aware that Kurai was nearby, trying to avoid the bloody scene.

"Hah!" He began, "Obviously a pushy princess..." The blood on the ground formed a spike on his hand, which he used to began cut pieces of meat away from the carcass of the animal. He staked the chunks of meat in his lap and grinned as she walked away. He could get it done... but he wasn't sure he wanted to... mess with her. A little while afterwards, he had taken all the useful pieces of meat that could be eaten and had started a fire, getting ready to begin cooking the meat.

Meanwhile, Karasu had summoned some animals, including Kurai to be watchful of any undesired.. intrusions. She removed her coverings, and began to wash them vigorously against a rock. She cleaned her blade, and herself as well. She hung her clothes to dry, and waited by the stream.

The orange-ish haired boy finally finished. All the meat had been cut and cooked, except for two pieces, which were meant for the two of them once his partner returned. He stood up, suddenly restless, he looked around, seeing if he could spot feathers, feeling like he could find him... he may have been a bird, but he was someone, something? To talk to. He was a bit annoyed that he couldn't see the blood shy bird and then closed his eyes, activating his dou-jutsu for a immature reason, looking for the bird. When he opened his eyes, they were a deep red color. His vision was like looking at two televisions, he could see in front of him and through the birds eyes, seeing what ever the bird could.

Kurai shyly looked away as Karasu undressed. To her he said, "This is odd, having time off, isn't it?" He half-glanced over, only to see nothing but her back. She was wading out into the water to soak. To this, she responded, "Yes, Kurai-kun, but the time off is nice.." She found a place to sit so the water reached just below her collar bone. By that time, Kurai was looking at her as she continued to speak. "It sure beats having our asses handed to us.." She sighed, and continued, "Will there ever be a Biju or Jinchuriki we can actually kill?" She tilted her head back, and let it rest on a rock. She closed her eyes, and opened them to find that Kurai was perched near her head, by the rock. She lifted her hand out of the water, and stroked his side.

His double vision showed him the birds vision. He saw his partner in the stream and then blinked. So the bird was with Kara. He closed his eyes and then reopened them, he could hear through the bird, but he could read lips... and he needed something to do. He watched as she spoke about the time they had off and the ongoing issue of biju and their inability to kill one. It irritated him a bit, but only because she was right. He chewed his cheek and began to look at what else was visible through the birds eye. Something caught his eye, Reizo had always had an affiliation for 'shiny' things and he could spot... something between the rocks that she had leaned upon. He squinted, as if he thought it would help, trying to get a better look at it, but to no avail. He straightened his posture, his curiosity was peaked. He stared at the dim, deep blue shimmer that he could see. He continued staring intensely, trying to get the bird to notice it.

Kurai blinked, not being able to shake a heavy feeling to look behind Karasu. He cocked his head, looking at the rock behind her. Karasu seemed not to notice. Instead, she leaned forward, and ran her fingers through her hair. "Kurai-kun, look away. I'm getting out. My clothes are dry.. and I'm a little hungry." She grinned at Kurai, which was an uncomfortable thing for him to see because she never smiled. Kurai also shuddered because she was referring to the deer meat. To himself, he asked, "Since when did Karasu-chan develop a sense of humor?!" He looked away as she waded out of the stream and began to dress. While she dressed, he hopped over to the rock to get a good long look at what he felt an urge to see.

Reizo took a moment, taken by surprise by Kara's facial expression. It seemed strange on her face. Unfamiliar. He blinked as the bird moved towards the rock to examine what was shimmering. Reizo's eyes widened as his eyes focused on the the subject. It was a jewel. He lifted his arms and reached forward, as if he could grab it. He clutched air and then frowned, remembering he was using the birds eyes. It was a gem he was rather familar. It was an, "Azurite Crystal", but it didn't have a rough, rocky look to it... it looked soft and extravagant. Something he was NOT used to with this certain kind of gem. It seemed polished, he wanted it in his hands. It looked valuable. He smiled and got up to his feet and began down the path that Kara had gone down towards the stream.

Karasum now fully dressed, stretched backwards, feeling her back pop in several places. She heard something/someone approaching, and quickly reached for her katana which was resting under the tree her clothes were drying. She unsheathed it. Kurai heard her and stopped looking at the gem. He flew over to her, and perched on her shoulder. She crouched in the shade of the trees, waiting to see who the intruder was. She wasn't sure if it was Reizo, but it was best to be on her guard.

Foot steps got closer and then a shadow protruded past the dark tree line. The youth stepped out. They had a light, light blue shade of hair and equally blue eyes. The youth seemed timid, they looked around, both left and right, obviously looking to see if someone was there. It's gender was difficult to point out right away, it's skin seemed soft and it's face was rather feminine. The shoulder's, however, were broad. They stepped towards the stream, almost directly where Karasu had been. The youth jumped into the water and submerged all but their nose in the water. It was peering into the crack where the jewel was. It reached in and grabbed the jewel and pulled it out.

Karasu watched warily as the seemingly unfamiliar figure moved towards the rock. She crept closer, taking care not to make any abrupt sounds. She was three feet from the stone, at the figure's right hand side. Kurai kept quiet, though Karasu could hear his tiny heart beating. As soon as the person emerged, Karasu leapt forward, arms extended, intending to pin the person against the rock. Kurai teetered. Losing his balance, he flew to a nearby branch. If executed properly, Karasu would be in the water with the person, her katana at their neck.

A light scream escaped the strangers mouth and they're eyes widened wildly. It was obviously frightened beyond explanation. More so then they should have been. They clutched the gem in they're hand tightly and then pressed themselves against the rock as much as they could. Tears welled up in their eyes and then streamed down they're cheeks and they sobbed lightly.
A shadow drifted over them, and Reizo glared down at the youth, "Why don't you give me that rock kid... she's kid less deserving." He knelled down and reached into the water, trying to pry the rock from they're hand.

"Who are you? Why have you come here?" Karasu demanded, ignoring the child's tears. She held the blade where it was, not an inch from the weeping person's neck. Karasu showed no remorse. She stared at the child with her light, lavender colored eyes. However, she secretly wished she hadn't startled the child so.. Karasu wasn't good with crying children.

"I-I" They're voice was quite feminine, "I always come here... E-Every day..." They're voice was incredibly shaky. They looked up at Reizo and blink at him fearfully, and then shook they're head. "N-no! Please! Please, don't take it!" More tears cascaded down they're cheeks as they fought the prying hand of Reizo, who was crushing they're hand against the stone in order to force it out. "My-My name... is H-hakumei Mizore..."

Karasu groaned. "Hakumei? Reizo, where does that sound familiar?" She lowered her blade, and sheathed it. she figured this person was no longer a threat of any kind. "Quit weeping, already.." Karasu cocked her head to see what the fuss was all about, considering she wasn't aware of the gem in the first place. "What is that," she demanded again, "What's that gem for?" Kurai flew from the tree, and joined Karasu again, landing on her shoulder. He surveyed the weeping girl, and felt a little uncomfortable.

Reizo released the young girls hand, but didn't take his eyes off of the jewel underneath the water. He decided that he should listen, maybe they're was someway the gem wasn't normal. He sat down and crossed his legs, looking down at the two and listening.
She blinked and watched as the blade was pulled away from her throat and the guy had stopped trying to pry the gem. She dropped her brow and then looked at the white haired women before moving away a bit. She didn't talk again she simply slowly scooted away. She stopped and looked up, "I-its... to help keep, 'them' away..." She said slowly.

Karasu looked at Reizo with one eyebrow raised. Her look said, "A potential as successfully killing something?" Slowly, she shifted her glance towards the girl. Karasu took her hand off of the hilt of her sword, and placed it on her hip. "Them?" She looked the girl over, wondering if she'd traveled far to this remote place. Karasu glanced at the blue gem again. Kurai closed his eyes, and moved his chakra to both Reizo and Karasu's ears. He said, "Well, this is getting interesting.. Could this be a possible biju?"

Reizo blinked as he heard the birds voice and he smiled and leaned towards the kid. "So... tell me... how could a crystal protect you from anyone? We might kill you... and it ain't doing shit." He smiled at the small girl.
She bit her lip and looked away, "W-well..." She looked away and pulled himself out of the stream and looked at the two strangers, "The gem doesn't protect me... the person who uses it does... It's a chak-" She stopped and bit her lip a bit harder and looked away, "May... May I please leave?"

Karasu went forward towards the girl. Placing a firm hand on her shoulder, Karasu said with seriousness, "Not until you tell us what's going on here. We could help.. but then again, we might not be up to it." She leaned in closer, looking the girl dead in the eyes. She continued, "That just depends on the information you give us.." There was a relentless chill in her voice, something she was known for by her clan. Kurai couldn't help but hold back a shudder as Karasu spoke. Karasu patted the girl's shoulder and said, "We get paid to kill demons, you know.. But how can we know taht's what the gem keeps off, if you're in such a hurry to leave?"
